SVKB INAUGURATION – A REPORT

Melbourne welcomes new Lord Venkata Krishna and Guru Raghavendra Swamiji Temple near Chadstone Mall

Melbourne proudly welcomes the grand inauguration of Sri Venkata Krishna Brundavana (SVKB) Temple at 241 Poath Road, Murrumbeena, 3163 in Melbourne with the Anugraha (Blessings) of the Lord and His Holiness Sri Sugunendra Teertha Swamiji.

The grand inauguration event on the evening of 19th March, 2017 was presided by Honourable Steve Dimopoulos – Member of Parliament from Oakleigh Constituency of Victoria, and other key achievers from the vibrant Indian community in Melbourne.

With humble beginnings over nearly 7 years ago by a group of likeminded Guru Raghavendra Swamiji devotees in Melbourne, this milestone has arrived in a relatively short time. When this group of devotees approached Sri Suguneedra Teertha Swamiji to consider Australia as a centre to establish Lord Krishna Temple he welcomed their idea. He visited Australia for the first time in March 2013 and was touched by the devotion and determination of the devotees here. In 2015 Swamiji established a small priest house in Hampton Park to offer religious services to the devotees. He also facilitated the first arrival of Guru Sri Raghavendra Swamiji Brundavana in Melbourne – arriving straight from Mantralayam in Andhra Pradesh, India. Guru Raghavendra Swamiji is a famous saint in Southern India who lived close to 400 years ago and his following has increased since then. Devotees usually worship his Brundavana which has the sacred mud from his final resting place in Mantralayam.

Hon Steve Dimopoulos is very supportive of spreading ancient wisdom from our rich vedic heritage to the larger Australian community to benefit one and all. In appreciation of his support, the MP was presented a special book on Madhwacharya’s Philosophy, written very well in English by Sri Bananjaye Govindacharya, the eminent scholar from India. Thus a library for learning the spiritual advancement and rich culture has begun in earnest!

His Holiness Sri Suguneendra Teertha Swamiji is a globally renowned spiritual leader and the current President of United Nations World Council of Religions for Peace. He is the Pallbearer of global peace through his message – “Vasudeiva Kutumbakam – One World, One Family“.

Swamiji has spread the message of Guru Sri Madhwacharya across the world and has established 8 temples of Lord Krishna outside of India in North America and UK. Now Swamiji has established the 9th and first temple in Australia and the Southern Hemisphere. He had announced this plan during the first ever Srinivasa Kalyana event held in Melbourne on January 29th, 2017. Within 2 months Lord Venkata Krishna along with his consorts Goddess SriDevi, BhooDevi, and Sri Raghavendra Swamiji have moved into the new temple.

The temple is a great blessings to the thousands of Indian professionals who live and work in the city. Just a 20 minutes train ride from the city, the Brundavana (or garden of Lord Krishna) is conveniently located to Public Transport (Hughesdale Train station on the Pakenham / Cranbourne line) and just 3 mins bus ride from the famous Chadstone Shopping Mall (Bus Route 767 towards Southland Mall).

The new premises is a designated place of worship and is self-sufficient to conduct Pooja functions and celebrate our festivals. The Temple is open every day of the year and we invite everyone to participate in our daily Pooja in the morning between 11:30 AM to 12:30 PM and evening Pooja between 7:30 PM – 8:30 PM followed by Prasada (lunch or dinner).

We perform regular Poojas like Samoohika Shri Satya Narayana Pooja on every Poornima or Full Moon Day, Gana Homa on every Chaturthi (4th day of the Waning Moon), Goddess Laxmi Pooja every Friday evening, Lord Shiva / Rudra Abhisheka every Monday evening, Sri Raghavendra Swamiji Pooja every Thursday evening, and so on.

We encourage everyone to please avail the services of the Priests, either at the temple or at your residence, to perform the necessary traditions like Shraddha Tithi for your dear and departed parents, Upakarma (Changing of the Sacred Thread for young boys and men). These are very important activities with tremendous significance and we encourage you to continue the tradition outside your motherland as well. Additionally the Priests welcome you to celebrate any special events like Anniversaries or Birthdays along with family and friends. We would be happy to perform a Pooja for the occasions.

In addition to religious activities, SVKB also promotes and supports cultural activities. Vasudeva Kriya Yoga conducts regular Yoga and Meditation classes every Thursday evening at the temple and every Saturday morning (7.30 AM – 9 AM) at Phoenix Park Hall about 5 minutes from the Temple. We host and invite visiting artists from India and around the world to showcase their art and spread the message to the vibrant Melbourne Art Culture.
